Edward Tufte, sculptor

Mrs. and pets

We’re big fans of “ET” here at Fat Pencil Studio. No, not the Extra Terrestrial. Not Ernest Tubb (hey country music fans!). We mean Edward Tufte, information visualization pioneer and guru, and apparently now a sculptor. I came across this BBC News piece about Tufte’s new 3d endeavors. It’s always inspiring to see someone so insatiably creative. And it’s always fascinating to hear what quirky things geniuses are interested in (smiling fish!). “If you get the truth and the goodness right,” he says, “beauty will take care of herself.” And just for good measure, he goes on to quote Chuck Close: “inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work.”

Back to work!
