Square Open House

A lot of the work we do gets presented behind closed doors to only a few people, so it's always exciting when we get a chance to share it with the public at large.

With construction for upgrades to Pioneer Courthouse Square slated to begin early next year, Portland Parks & Recreation was looking for a way to clearly explain the schedule and impacts of the project at an open house held on September 26. Here is what we came up with:

We started with a logistics plan and project schedule that worked fine for their intended purpose: specialized communication among people with the same expertise. But they were poor tools for communicating with a wider audience because they contain a lot of extraneous information and not a lot of attention has been paid to their graphic clarity.

So it was my task to design posters that would convey the relevant information about the project in a clear, contextualized and engaging way. A 3d base diagram helps people immediately identify the location in question. The careful use of color draws attention to the points being made, and relates connected pieces of information. See what you think.
