Who we are

Fat Pencil Studio is a visual presentation company.

Our staff has the technical expertise necessary to translate complex details into compelling graphics. Our clients see results: successful project outcomes and improved collaboration with stakeholders.

The “Fat Pencil” is a nod to the traditional tool an architect uses to get key ideas on paper quickly, without getting bogged down by complex details. We also use a range of digital modeling, design and presentation tools to create explanatory images and presentations.

JOSHUA COHEN founded Fat Pencil Studio in 2004 with the idea that the world could use a little more perspective. With his wonky mind for technical details, and degrees in architecture and civil engineering, Joshua brings a wealth of knowledge to every project. His passion for inventive solutions gives him a genuine enthusiasm for helping project teams utilize visual thinking for authentic collaboration and effective presentations.

Joshua enjoys volunteering at local schools, offers frequent seminars on visual communication, and founded the Portland Sketchup Meetup for 3d modeling hobbyists and professionals. Outside the office, Joshua enjoys getting around via bicycle: commuting with kids, training with friends, exploring the side streets and back roads.

ADRIENNE LEVERETTE leads Fat Pencil Studio’s design team with a keen sense of harmony and aesthetics and high standards for clarity and precision. Her raw talent for creating powerful illustrations is refined by fifteen years experience creating communication graphics. With degrees in music and architecture, Adrienne has an astute mind for organizing complex information, finding the essential narrative of a project, and bringing this story to life in a compelling visual presentation.

Adrienne lifts the office spirit with her cheery (if sometimes wry) sense of humor. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, making films, and playing with her band the Waxwings.

JANNINE HANCZAREK graduated from Portland State University in 2015 and has lived in the Portland area for 10 years. Originally from San Francisco, Jannine studied physics and math before deciding to pursue architecture for her degree. She brings skills in 3D modeling, graphic design, and spatial reasoning. In her spare time Jannine likes to draw, cook, and go on long walks exploring the city.
YANA STANNIK joined the team at Fat Pencil Studio after graduating from the University of Oregon. Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Yana earned her degree in architecture, with emphases in planning, preservation, and social justice. She brings skills in 3D modeling, graphic design, and data visualization. In her spare time Yana likes to cook, thrift shop, and get lost in thought on public transit.

Fat Pencil Studio created 3d diagrams that helped us understand what each witness could have seen from their perspective. These were valuable to our team during trial preparation, and proved very convincing to the jury.
