FPS... The Movie

Fat Pencil Studio is an unusual company, and I've always found it challenging to fully explain what we do. I carry around business cards with pictures on the back. I arrive at conferences with a laptop to show examples of our work. My approach has always been to show up in person to explain our approach to visual thinking and storytelling... but I can only be in one place at a time.

Now, thanks to SketchUp and Wit House Productions, I have another option. They have created a three minute profile video that does a great job of telling this story and provides a little window into the way we work:

This was the first time I’ve ever been called “the talent” for a video shoot, and I’ll admit to being pretty nervous during the interview portion. I was sitting just feet away from a big camera and surrounded by a four person film crew. But the team at Wit House are real pros, and the quality of the finished video is a testament to their skill and creativity.

If this is starting to sound like an award acceptance speech, it’s probably because I feel honored to join some of the other folks that SketchUp has chosen to profile, such as legendary architectural illustrator Steve Oles. And props to Roman Mars at 99% Invisible who first told me the highway stripes story that you see at the beginning of this video. But most of all, I want to thank my team at Fat Pencil Studio who stand with me every day to create compelling graphics.
