Yelena Prusakova was an illustrator at Fat Pencil Studio from 2013-2017.
Earlier this year Fat Pencil Studio began work on SceneViz 2d, a custom mapping process to quickly illustrate events in traffic-related cases. Since then, I have been working on a collection of ready-made graphics, creating a library of generic intersections: a traffic circle, one way street, and a diagonal boulevard, as well as streets with bicycle and turning lanes.

I have also redrawn our vehicles and beefed up the options to include sizes ranging from a compact car to a truck. These are now vector graphics which means resolution will be no obstacle to creating large presentation boards. Both our maps and cars were created with care towards scale: the relative line weight of painted lanes is accurate and our vector vehicles build upon the scaling research Cody did earlier this summer. (P.S. Happy Fall!)

Ready to be laser cut
All this work means we can now offer a SceneViz 2d Traffic Set that can be used in many cases as a first step to visualize events leading to a collision. The traffic set includes six generic intersections and a variety of accurately scaled vehicles. The 18x24 inch boards are magnetic and also have a dry-erase laminate coating, so events can be worked out with steel-backed vehicle icons and details can be added with dry-erase markers. And of course we still do custom intersections for unique cases. For example, below is a series of SceneViz 2d graphics for SE McLoughlin and 17th Avenue in Portland, where a bicycist was recently struck by a garbage truck.
