Lani Milton is a Project Coordinator at Fat Pencil Studio
Growing up in Michigan, McKain received a BS in Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish from Michigan State. Fascinated by how little we know about the brain, he worked in Neuroscience and Psychology research for the last five years at Massachusetts General and then OHSU, bringing him to Portland in January of 2024.
After discovering a deeper passion for the stories his research reveals, McKain is currently pursuing an MA in Multimedia Storytelling at the University of Oregon. He is applying mediums like film, field recordings, and essays to connect his curiosity for biology with a desire to share larger universal themes.
If that wasn’t enough, he also runs Unstable Bagel, a bagel pop-up that you can find every Summer at the Sellwood Farmer’s Market. With memorable flavors like cacio e pepe, double garlic, and blueberry ube, and glowing reviews by fellow Fat Pencil employees, the rest of us are looking forward to trying them this upcoming season.
In his very limited free time, McKain also enjoys cooking (especially ramen), baking, skiing, filming, watching soccer, and hanging out with his two cats, Michi and Biff.
