Williams Bikeway Funded

N Williams and Broadway

This just in (via BikePortland.org): The Williams Avenue Bikeway project has secured $1.47 million in funding from an Oregon Transportation Commission grant. This project has been over three years in the making, having become something of a lightning rod for urban issues ranging from traffic safety to racism and gentrification. Fat Pencil Studio (working with Alta Planning) was intimately involved with the Stakeholder Advisory Committee process that yielded the final street design concept. This concept combines strategies including a left-hand separated bike lane, standard bike lanes, and shared traffic lanes to help:

  • eliminate bus/bike conflicts
  • allow more space for cyclists to maneuver
  • provide better safety for all modes of travel

We’re thrilled that the hard work of the SAC will be realized, and that Williams Ave will be safer, more vibrant thoroughfare in the near future.
